St. David's Center Pediatric Therapy Internship

Speech Therapy Description: Provide skilled and medically necessary speech/language therapy to children ages 16 months to 15 years of age with a variety of speech/language needs which may include speech, language, communication, feeding or swallowing disorders. Responsible for evaluation, intervention planning, parent consultation, treatment and documentation for varied pediatric caseload including children with autism spectrum disorder.

Practicum/Internship:

-  2-3 graduate students will be considered per semester pending staffing and St. David's Center's availability

-  Updated affiliation signed between St. David's Center and the graduate student's school

-  Graduate students who are in their 2nd year of school needing pediatric clinical experience

-  Practicum will align with working hours of the supervising speech therapist

-  Practicum experience will go for 10-12 weeks

Occupational therapy Description: Occupational therapists provide intervention to children ages 2- 12, with a variety of needs including sensory processing and modulation difficulties, autism spectrum disorders, motor coordination disorders, attention and learning disorders, social emotional and behavioral challenges and feeding difficulties, etc. Clinicians conduct evaluations, establish and modify treatment plans, direct intervention, provide parent education, and complete necessary documentation and billing. Services are provided through out-patient, community and/or site-based treatment programs within a strong collaborative team environment and family centered agency. The therapist collaborates with family, caregivers, multidisciplinary team and other service providers as appropriate to coordinate therapy services, offer resources, and maximize child's potential for positive outcomes.

These services are provided in accordance with St. David's policies and procedures, American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA's) code of ethics, MN DHS OT licensure, federal regulations and payer guidelines for medically necessary services.

Occupational therapy Level II Fieldwork experience:

-  A Graduate student of Occupational Therapy in a Certified program

-  We take students who are on their 2nd fieldwork experience

-  Updated affiliation/contract signed between St. David's Center and the graduate student's school

-  12 week program with varied days/hours

-  St. David's Center is committed to providing learning opportunities in the communities we serve. A Student Intern in Occupational Therapy will be supervised by a licensed Occupational Therapist to learn the essential functions of the profession within our setting.

Speech and Occupational Therapy Practicum Experience:

-  Practicum student(s) will begin by observing initially with the expectation to take over the occupational/speech therapist's caseload with ongoing supervision and consultation

-  Practicum student(s) will be responsible to do all job duties: plan sessions, complete paperwork, attend meetings, communicate with families/other staff members, create home programming, complete evaluations, and conduct treatment sessions.

-  Practicum students may have experience working in our outpatient clinic, telehealth sessions, within the Autism Day Treatment Program, Floortime Clinic, Social Zone, and within feeding therapy sessions.

-  Work or life experience with children.  Ability to take direction and work as a team member, strong communication and written skills, ability to establish positive, respectful working relationships with a diverse population of adults and children.  Flexibility, creativity and the ability to think on your feet, problem solve well.
